Now that I think about it, I'd bet I could have figured out a way to have those duplicates named with a numerical sequence and saved myself some manual labor. Unlike other tools, A Better Finder Rename allows any number of renaming actions to be combined, re-ordered, copied and deleted. It just was not easy to locate those tiny red "X"s in a very long list of files. The error checking was preventing the app from inadvertently creating any duplicate file names, so that was OK. Turns out that after executing "Test Manual" on my 5,000 files, I had to go through the batch looking for every one for which the App reported an error, then remove that from the file list. It was grayed out, however the "Test Manual" button was enabled.
